With Marcella Katjijova, Head of Intergenerational Trauma and Recovery of the Global Ovaherero Genocide Foundation, Namibia

Marcella Katjijova (BA in Psychology, trauma specialist) focuses in her work on the transformation and healing of the intergenerational trauma caused by the colonial forces of the German Empire against the Ovaherero and Nama. As a descendant of the Ovaherero Genocide survivors herself, she conducts free workshops in rural areas ongenerational trauma, parenting skills, addictions, goal setting, and various mental health issues. The aim is to impact society at the roots and provide understanding on why we react to certain situations the way we do and to create a safe space for healing, thus breaking the stigma on mental health.
Marcella Katjijova has a strong professional interest in trauma therapy as it is practiced in Germany. Her particular focus is on the transgenerational transmission of trauma and on psychotherapeutic approaches to understanding and addressing this phenomenon. Following a brief introduction M.K. looks forward to engaging in a discussion with the participants. The exchange will provide an opportunity to address questions, explore shared perspectives, and examine similarities and differences between therapeutic practice in Germany and in her own country.
